«Andreas Ihlebæk has rapidly become one of the most dynamic, ground-breaking composers in modern classical music», wrote Apple Music after the release of Ihlebæk's album I Will Build You A House. Already his debut album The Guest (2017), which was hailed as "a masterpiece" in media all around Europe, put Ihlebæk on the international map as an innovative composer who had created a whole new genre of music.

With his unique blend of modern classical, soul, art pop, jazz, choral music and folk music from his native Norway, Ihlebæk captured listeners around the world, and each live concert became an event. "Andreas Ihlebæk's concert at Oslo Concert Hall was the musical highlight of the year", said Norway's broadcaster NRK.

He was invited to perform the live finale at the Norwegian Grammies (Spellemannprisen) on NRK in 2021, filmed at the Norwegian National Museum – a performance which Spellemannprisen later presented as "the most beautiful moment of the year".

Ihlebæk has released four critically acclaimed solo albums – as of 2025. His latest album NOWHERE EVERYTHING again received overwhelming reviews and top scores from all around Europe, claiming the album was "one of the best albums of the year". It's been called a "otherworldly", "magical" and a "breathtakingly beautiful" work of "exceptional sophistication" that "it feels infinitely good to be in". Or as one critic put it: "If you're wondering what to listen to one last time before going deaf ...this is it".

Ihlebæk is currently dedicating much focus on his RO project. In a time of increased separation, both from each other, nature and from ourselves, his aim is to create quiet and sacred spaces for people to go inward — together — in music. The word «RO» is old Nordic for calm, peaceful and freedom from distraction. Ihlebæk’s philosophy for the RO project is to quietly ask us to transcend our fear of stillness and inner reflection, and rediscover the often lost connections to our own remembrance that we are stronger than we know.

The project started in 2023 and has taken him around Norway. In 2025 he has a residency at Gamle Aker kirke (the oldest building in Oslo, from the 1100’s), where he is developing the experience further and deeper.

He is also part of HEKA Studio, which developes immersive art experiences. Their first project HEKA premiered in Oslo January 2025, with a concept designed and developed by Marius Troy, technology by digital artist Steven Kübler and music composer and performed live in the HEKA chamber at the piano by Andreas Ihlebæk. When one of Norway’s top classical critics visited HEKA, it resulted in an essay on how the experience cured his writer’s block:

One of the upcoming projects for HEKA Studio is Sensation of Touch at Mariendom Neviges (Germany) in August/September 2026. It invites audiences to expand their sensory experience through a carefully orchestrated interplay of touch, sound, and scent. The project also includes a science board, with researchers from Oxford University and «scientists from diverse fields to contribute their research on perception and its impact on human experience».

He also performs Nowhere Everything, described as a "fascinating" and imaginative" musical experience with an ensemble consisting of strings and vocalists, including Annasara Lundgren, Nosizwe Baqwa and Sisi Sumbundu.
In the next chapter, he will present a full new live experience based on the album trilogy The Guest, I Will Build You a House, and Nowhere Everything. The trilogy experience has the title The Passage of Light.

Ihlebæk scores for film/television, with the film Flophouse America currently screening and receiving awards at film festivals around Europe. The film, produced by the renowned documentary companies Fri Film (Norway), Basalt Films (Netherlands) and SmartyPants (USA) was scored together with his long-time creative partner Marius Troy.
